Project: Parkwood Mills, Huddersfield. 180 apartment conversion of a Grade II listed building, £36 million project value, 102 weeks project duration, completed in 2009.
Parkwood Mills is a stunning development of apartments and penthouses with views towards the valley beyond. Set in the conservation area of Longwood, the mills were transformed to provide luxury living in a rural setting. Each apartment has been designed to maximise the potential of the historic buildings, integrating tall windows with multi-faceted ceilings. Wherever possible, period features including exposed stonework and original archways have been retained or replicated to preserve the integrity and beauty of the original buildings. Many apartments have terraces and a selection of ground floor apartments benefit from private patio areas.

- Demolition and alterations to internal structure

- Raised timber floors
- Jumbo stud partitions
- MF ceilings
- Bespoke joinery
- Decorative ceiling, wall and floor finishes
- Installation of loose and fixed furniture
- New build ‘penthouse’ developments
Project roles and responsibilities included:
- Assessing planning approval for change of use, conversion and new build
- Producing building plans for full planning and building regulation approval
- The interior design of apartments and communal areas
- Creating real time visualisations of apartments and communal areas
- Estimating the budget costs of the project
- Compiling take-offs, material schedules and subcontractor enquiries
- Reviewing design drawings and conducting value engineering exercises
- Evaluating and negotiating subcontractor tenders
- Procuring and preparing order documentation for materials, subcontractors, labour and plant
- Producing programmes of work and cash flow statements
- Preparing and agreeing subcontractor contra-charge claims
- Preparing subcontract valuations, payment certificates and agreeing final accounts
- Producing project cost reports
- Producing risk assessments and method statements for ‘in-house’ labour
- Programming and coordinating subcontract works
